Through open discourse in the classroom, Robyn aims to ignite a passion for typography in her students.
Since the fall of 2012, Robyn has been working with students at the Chicago Portfolio School to help them understand the history of typography and the necessity of typographic consideration in their work. She has delighted in the profound discoveries of her first-quarter post-graduate students, and is constantly encouraged by their thirst for logic, meaning, and understanding.
In order to provide context for the terminology used in the field, Robyn brings her students to a letterpress workshop led by David Sieren. Over the course of an afternoon, we introduce the students to the tools of a typesetter, and guide them through the process of making their own lockups and prints. After this workshop, students demonstrate a stronger grasp of concepts covered, and a more concrete understanding of the technical side of typography.
